It is different for every woman. I, personally, lost my mucus plug four days before I started going into contractions. And my water didn't break until about 5 minutes before I started pushing.

Now that your mucus plug has broken, it could be any day now, at any time. It could be tonight, tomorrow, or a week from now. This is the time to get some rest. Good luck, mama. :)

Really there is no average. With my first neither my mucus nor water broke until 5 hours into labor when it was time to push the baby out. With my second, I don't remember my mucus breaking, but it may have, my water broke in the evening and in the morning I still wasn't having contractions, so with the help of my midwife and some caster oil my contraction started and he was out three hours later. You do want to be having steady contractions within 8 hours of your water breaking or you risk infections inside. Just watch your body, it knows exactly what to do, it was designed to make a baby. If your water breaks, you'll know. It can range from full out pee your pants like or a steady constant dripping. You'll know.

I've heard the same thing. My water never broke until my OB broke it in the hospital. I do know that the contractions once your water breaks are no joke....They will come, keep coming and get stronger. I mean, I could only labor to about 4cm for about 3 hours before I needed to be alone and wanted an epidural.

There is no correlation between loosing your mucous plug and going into labour.

Your water should not break until labour is well progressed it is needed to protect the baby from contractions.

Only in Hollywood does the water break, your drive to the hospital, and the baby is born. Sorry.

i never saw mine in all three of my pregnancies but if its your first you will probably be in for a long wait( i was in labour with my first for 11hrs ) in most cases your waters dont break untill you are about 7-10 cm so im afraid to tell ya this but try not to think about it n get yourself het up take things as and when they come u will deffinatly know when you are in labour believe me! plus you might have to have your waters broken for you in the hospital (my first born had to have waters broken) but if you have been goin to the toilet quite alot in the past hours or so then thats is most likely your waters you think you are peeing out (lol i had this with my 2 child ) hope this helps you the best of luck to you and your family iys an amazing experience try to enjoy it i know that sounds a hard thing to do but when you look back you probably wont remember any of the pain just this tiny extra special person you have to treasure xx

i went into labor and after 6 hour i passed the plug, they baby did not come for another 26 hours and the doctor broke the water bag when the head started to come out. so anything is possible and all births are different. if you loss you water you will know it.

My friend went 3 weeks dilated at 3 cm....her mucus plug came out 3 weeks before she gave birth.
I am sure you have heard this a thousand times, but every birth is different.
