Where are you based? Try your local haberdashery shop, if there is a market near you then the stall that has net curtain fabrics will often be able to order in other specific fabrics. eBay ofcourse is also useful. I get most of my fabrics from C+H Fabrics.

velvet will last for awhile, and rain shouldn't affect it. Storage, however, is the issue. If velvet is stored with anything which can leave an imprint, the tuft of the fabric will be compromised, and show that imprint, which is almost impossible to remove (steaming, pressing, steaming, pressing, etc.) As with carpets, if something spills on it, use a damp cloth to clean, then put dry towels, followed by heavy books, to soak up the remaining moisture.

If you are in the UK you can get this from Abakhan Hobby & Home. Visit their web site www.abakhan.co.uk or visit one of their shops if they are near by. They have a huge range of fabrics on and off the roll.

John Lewis sell all fabrics. If you are not within reach of one, go on-line and you can order. Otherwise go to your nearest Hobbycraft shop where they have loads of different fabrics.
Good luck!
