Yes, it does change the channel, and "changer" describes what it does, but you do not refer to it as "the changer" or you sound like a total retard. I've had this argument, believe it or not, over a dozen times with this person.

I believe the proper term is "the clicker"

I call it a channel changer...so I guess that makes me retarded. It makes more sense to call it that than a remote. I know it allows you to be remote, not standing next to the TV or cable box as you change channels, but really, the function of the remote is to change channels. Also, you might want to consider that your friend is doing something that all good speakers of English do: changing it as he speaks.

lol, I have had friends who called video game controllers...remotes. Nothing can change the way they say it. You could ruin it for them though, by calling something else that changes something the changer

Hehehe oh yeah to the two ! there have been purely 3 channels (God i think previous) plus the UHF channels. My Dad replaced into the aerial grasp, and that i replaced into the hard artwork. He might yell at me flow it this form or that way, and he had a form of enormous ones outdoors that had the motor, so then i replaced right into a spotter ! i replaced into sent to attend the television each and all the time ! i like it nonetheless -- something to tinker with.

...and you waste your time arguing about this because...????? I don't get it! I've heard many people call it "the changer", "the clicker", etc. I've NEVER heard anyone say "please hand me the tv remote control"

Maybe the friend thinks you are retarded for calling it something else? Why does something as trivial as this bother you?
