u can increase your connection speed by tweaking your windows TCP/IP settings, here u can download a free utility http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
also at speedguide.net u can measure your internet speed, security & many more test u can perform.

the above tool requires advanced knowledge of TCP/IPsettings, so first u practise it on this tool http://www.tweakmaster.com/download.php, its free for only 30 days, but it is sufficient to know how tcp/ip settings works so u can manually alter it in the free tweaking utility i mentioned first.

your system must be free from spywares, adwares, viruses, etc
so scan weekly your pc for it,

u must have RAM atleast 256 mb for xp,
larger capacity is better.

your os drive must be free at least 25%
run disk clean up for it.

some antivirus, & firewalls also slow down browsing speed,
so take care of it.

here is a worlds fastest web browser try it http://www.avantbrowser.com/

hav fun
