no they should not be shut down (the loss of jobs to the community would be too great) they should be discplined and subject to regular checks by the approprite bodies incl. RSPCA

cause I used to live in Norfolk and Suffolk and as a result I will support the produce from the area eg. Colmans etc...

I have not and never will buy anything from Bernard Matthews, I knew someone who worked for them who told me some stuff that put me off buying their products.

But please continue to buy meat from the eastern counties and support the other suppliers - its these farmers I feel sorry for - they are likely to suffer from this too

Did he know they were importing bird flu? Surely he wouldn't have willingly imported it?!
He should be shut down just for the way they treat the turkeys let alone anything else

You say that like they ordered it in!!

Bird flu is a random thing, it was unfortunate for Bernard Matthews that it got into their buildings and infected their birds, but I'm sure they weren't too chuffed about having to cull all their poultry and go through the procedures to disinfect everything.

I don't buy their products anyway but its nothing to do with bird flu - I just don't like their stuff. But even supposing you eat a chicken or turkey infected with bird flu, if you cook if thoroughally, you are at no risk.

Get it in perspective please!!!

I think he should be shut down for cruelty to turkeys. I don't think it will be necessary to shut him down over the outbreak of bird flu because I don't imagine that his sales will be very good in the near future.

No, the importing of livestock is very common in order to keep up with demand. But this kind of publicity will seriously harm public confidence in their products, for quite some time, as mud sticks.

I won't eat anything from him again. My wife won't buy it now. He's always made out in his adverts that it all comes from Norfolk - but he didn't mention that it was via Hungary.

We had an unopened packet of Turkey Ham and, about 30 minutes ago, my wife gave half of it to our 2 cats. they'll have the other half tomorrow!

Why do companies with a great business and reputation ALWAYS s**t on their own brand?
