usually btwn May and Sept, the park is pretty busy, best time is after school is back in session, like mid Sept.. If your brothers and sisters can afford to chip in for a nite stay at 'The Ahwahnee Hotel', that would be a great treat,,, but book soon, as I heard there is usually a waiting list to stay there...

Wow! That's a great anniversary gift. Are you putting them up in the Ahwahnee Hotel? Not that it matters. If they enjoy the outdoors, they would probably enjoy Yosemite Lodge just as much as the Ahwahnee if not more. I've been to Yosemite during every season. I generally prefer the Fall months but I do occasionally visit during Spring for the waterfalls. Winter is also great because you can ice skate in the valley and ski or snowboard at Badger Pass. Winter is also the only time it really gets quiet in the valley.
The snow covered park in Winter is very beautiful but also very cold. Since you specified no snow, that rules out the time between December and April most years. Summer (mid-June to mid-September) is also out of the question because of the tremendous amount of people that will be there. That's not an enjoyable experience at all. That leaves the time from early May to early June (Spring) and mid-September to November (Fall).
If you want them to experience Yosemite's waterfalls during peak flows, send them during Spring. The waterfalls will be roaring, the Merced River will be full, the animals will be out in the meadows and the wildflowers will be blooming in the valley. On the other hand, if you want them to experience the tranquility of Yosemite, send them during Fall. The later during this period, the fewer people will be there but the colder it will be. October is a good time to experience Yosemite without the hordes of people and before it starts getting too cold. The down side is Yosemite Falls will be dry and the few that flow year round, like Bridalveil, are greatly reduced in volume. Still, the peace and quiet after the summer crowds have departed makes up for it.

My absolute favorite is fall, most specifically October. Gorgeous colors and less traffic than normal. You will want to avoid summer if possible.
Great idea. Yosemite is one of my favorite places.

Always traffic...can't get around that. But spring time is best if you don't want to see the snow covered park....FYI winter is best for absolute beauty.
I live 1 1/2 hours South of park.
