the way you match up ties with you shirt is u have to have the color of your shirt somewhere in your tie- for ex- a yellow shirt- a blue and yellow striped shirt would b perfect! so in this case just take a tie that has black accents, and youll b fine. try on a few - and see which one looks the best. good luck! or u can try a totalyy black one

If you can, change the pants if they are plain black, too much of it and you will look French. Opt for pinstriping on the pants. If you have just plain black pants then go for a conservative color for the tie, grey would look good. Drop the tie clip altogether. With the tie, whatever the color, go with a pattern. That way you won't look to uniform. I personally like an argyle pattern. Good luck. Here is a link with something that might look good.

it depends on several factors. one important note... it is never ok to wear a black tie with a black shirt except maybe at funerals. if the event is during the day, a lighter color tie is appropriate. if it is an evening event, a darker color tie is appropriate. stripes are appropriate if you are wearing a jacket. solids are more appropriate if no jacket is worn. also, do not wear a novelty tie (e.g. spongebob squaretie)
these are all just guidelines, except the novelty tie thing. hope they help

Black on black is very chic. I would suggest wearing a black tie. Either that, or something dark. Lighter ties with a dark shirt look like they're trying too hard.

I like to match so I would probably put on a silver tie. It'll all match together perfectly. Don't wear a white tie. Put on a silver, grey, stripe tie.

My son wore a silver/grayish tie with black slacks and black shoes. He looked really sharp!

I'm sure that'll look fine. Maybe jazz it up with a dark red tie, or a dark blue. But black-on-black tends to look sophisticated. Have fun at your homecoming! ^.^

a darker print tie with black in it. A nice smallish check pattern is good. I'd stay away from the striped ones....boring.
