We should not do anything about those two examples. You think it is not fair right? how fair would it be to exclude them just because they know the person doing the hiring. Getting a recommendation is good you make it sound immoral its not. You should stop whining and work harder. And just because you get passed on for a job, does not a conspiracy make.

You don't. Not if we want to maintain our capitalism. Who said communist country? That's not quite it, but communism is close to what this guy wants. He's looking at Socialism, and that is exactly where we are headed with the likes of Hillary Clinton and Al Gore pulling the strings of the controlling party.

Income redistribution, affirmative action, school redistricting...

Would you want a guy with a 60 IQ doing your taxes? That would be fair, wouldn't it? He's got an equal opportunity. How about the same guy designing our weapons programs? Perhaps they should fire Condi Rice and have Forrest Gump doing our international relations.

There are reasons why there are not equal opportunities. Throwing money at the education system hasn't fixed it yet, but maybe just another 15 billion dollars will do the trick. Here's a newsflash... IT WON'T.

Your equal opportunity is personal responsibility. You CAN get into Harvard or Yale or Princeton. You have to WORK for it. You can get a kickass job. You have to DESERVE it.

Smarten up.

If they can't cut the mustard in testing then Goodbye...The other thing is that colleges allow rotten tenured instructors to stay in the system. If they are terrible they should be removed just like grammar and high school teachers. Places of education should be places of learning Not indoctrination.

If employers took the nepotism, politics, racism/sexism out of employment and the politically correct removed, that would make things better. Take a clue from Google..their employees are happy and thriving. They are making money hand over fist. That's what makes for longevity and a productive workplace. Not the stiff, you must micro manage everything mentality. Too controlling makes for a very tense work environment

The thing about employment is that it isn't wrong. Connections are a huge part in employment. It's a requirement in fact. You need connection to do business, etc. That's how the world works.

The school thing, however, is a bit ridiculous. It doesn't actually happen. I'd know because people have always thought I got to where I am today because of my father. But that's not true. I still did the interview, I still mug to make the grades.

The only thing my father did was give me an edge. My stuff were reviewed earlier. But if I didn't make the grade then, I wouldn't have made it all the same. I worked hard to get to my uni. It wasn't my father.

I believe people should have the FREEDOM to hire anyone they so desire, through whatever process they desire. We don't need more rules and laws that cripple those who provide jobs!!!

I think the best thing we could do to help erase what inequality there is in the education system and workforce is to dispose of affirmative action. Demanding that job providers / universities hire people or accept them based solely on their race is discrimination, stupid and counterproductive. We aren't living in the 1960s anymore, though many still think we are. It's an entitlement mentality that erodes the foundations of a strong economic society. And it's disgusting. Everyone must prove themselves in both of these fields in life if they want to be rewarded. We wouldn't put a student on the honor roll in school just because of their race! EVERYONE must earn their education and money. A degree shows they have earned it; a paycheck lists ones "earnings."

One thing that you have to understand is that the equality exists. The only thing that is inequal is the amount of effort that goes into having "connections" or being able to pull strings.

For instance, I have the ability to pull strings to get people into very well paying jobs, however, I have been able to do this only because I get up early in the morning, I work hard all day, and then I make time to build business relationships and associations. So given the amount of time and effort that I put forth in order to make this possible, I am not going to pull my strings of influence for just ANYONE. I want to give that well paying job to someone who I know is going to work hard and be an asset to the company.

In order for me to know that this person is going to be a good worker, I have to have references from other people. In this world you have to make friends in order to get places that you want to go in life.

You don't....that is the price of the freedoms we have.....Do you want freedom...or have everyone equal....we can't have both.....

Education: If you bust you butt, get the grades there are many many grants and scholorships for colleges.....I went to school for 4 years....my parents make less that 50,000 a year between the two of them and I did not have to pay a dime for it...why...I busted my butt got good grades and just all around worked my *** off.....If a student does not do that, they have no reason to complain when they don't get into that good school.....

Employment: I do think AA needs to be done aways with, however, most buisness you need contacts to run....like my job for example...Sales, I am not going to hire someone who I don't know can do the job...and a person that I can't work with....I don't know everyone who applies, so I have to rely on what others who know them say...so you have to know people who will vouch for you....I am not going to hire someone who nobody I know has not clue about....that is not smart.....you have to know the kind of people you are going to be working with.

People need to quite with the poor me BS and start working for what they want.

That's not a problem in a sound free society. It's the basis of any good capitalistic economic arena.

People with contacts get hired not only for their abilities but also ..... and more importantly....because they do have contacts. It's called "networking".

I doubt that you could find a country where this isn't happening. If you could, I bet you wouldn't want to live there.

We have a tendency of ignoring older folks who lived through the turbulent times of oppression. Some are gifted to extend wisdom, we cannot quite understand.
The most prevalent is "Money is the root of all Evil"! Evil is what controls the world. Without money- society has a sense of worthlessness, which is insecurity.
I prefer to be poor, intelligent and happy. Prime example of rags-to-riches want to be somebody, even it kills me mentality...Anna Nicole Smith.

We don't. Having connections is good. How do you know those people aren't good for the job. I wouldn't vouch for someone that isn't going to make me look good. I could careless about the other people applying for jobs even if they were more qualified. Doesn't mean they are going to make the job any easier if you can't have good chemistry working with them. Ivy league schools are all about money. Those are a lost cause.
