For as long as I can remember, I fear balloons, and most people think of this as an irrational fear, but its weird. If I'm in the same room as a balloon, I cringe and get sweaty and I've even thrown up before. They make me EXTREMELY uncomfortable, and even talking about them makes my hands sweat. I cant stand them.. BUT ONLY THE PLASTIC KIND, not the mylar kind. Its so strange.... I cant think of a single reason in my life why I would be globophobic. Does anyone know why something like this just happens????

Phobias are by definition irrational fears. That means there probably isn't a why.

My daughter is petrified of them- and she is 14. She also doesnt like explosions, gunfire, loud bangs or anything.

She too is also comfortable with the mylar ones. I think that is because they dont pop as often as the regular ones. She wont even hold a deflated regular balloon.

We have adapted and adjusted and really havent noticed any differences. Its not a bad fear- many people are scared of them.

Heck- i am petrified of Clowns- now how weird is that?

You probably have repressed childhood memories of a traumatic experience involving a balloon. Maybe you should see a therapist. My mom told me that I was afraid of them when I was little. If she didn't want me to go upstairs she just blew up a balloon and put it on the bottom step.

it might be some experience when you were little, not like some baloon did something to you, no, but maybe you heard something that you forgot about but that made you feel like this about balloons. fear is something common and people fear many things, for apparently no reason, but everything has a reason. maybe it's just the material theyre made from, maybe your parents know more because they had the chance to observe you when you were little.

may be something traumatize you when you were with a balloon and that made you link the balloon to fear. Thought it should have make you scare of round object too, but i guess you're special.
