No ways. For starters Indians r no good at any kind of sport. Cricket is lucky it has such a huge following & hence large base pool of players to choose from. Thats how we get a decent team. Those who made it big in other sport eg Vishy Anand, Lee-Hesh etc have done so thru thier own hard work & dedication. Indian system has no part to play in that. I wud say- if a talented youngster goes thru indian system he will be good for nothing on international stage. World has moved on- state of the art training facilities, fitness regimes, diets & what not.India is going backwards. Atleast cricket is getting some world class facilities coz of its popularity.
Another distinct disadvantage India has is d frail physique of indians. Its a real disadvantage, but given right kind of planning we can do as well as koreans & japanese.
But its never going to happen, take my word. No world cup football 4 India till d extinction of our planet. Maybe we can host it & get a place.

Development of a sport in a country depends upon two factors:

1. Governmental support and Sponsorship
2. Amount of money at stake

People who take up sports as career want assurance in future and earning to sustain a good life.

That is why Few sports get a headstart, like Cricket, Snooker/Billiards and Chess.

I do not find that a player can be a name to reckon with (on his/her own) in the absence of the above two factors.
Physique does not have a role to play (major role). Do u find Indian cricketers are heavily built or the Aussies are heavily built. Indian Ganguly and Dhoni are good players who have hit a lot many sixes in International cricket.

The Sports associations and the framework play a major role in the development. People like Gill can spoil a good sport/team.

Constant practise from childhood days is essential. Good non vegetarian food. Healthy body mind and soul. A sportsman should have only one point program in his aim, playing enjoying and winning. No other worries and discouragements.

There are crores of people in the country - but medals won are very few.
Countries having one tenth of population of our country are winning medals ten times the medals won by our people

The reason -

We preach and not practise.

Let us have the spirit of winning in our hearts - winning for ourselves, our town, our state and finally for the country

Medals can be plenty
