You are left with a part hemisphere depth 8 cm radius 12 cm.
If the whole sphere has radius 8 + x, you can draw a line from the centre to the circumference of the hole to make a right angle triangle with sides x and 12 and hypotenuse 8 + x. So:
(8 + x)^2 = x^2 + 12^2
Solve to find 8 + x.
I get 17 cm.

consider the radius as 8+x
a line from the centre to circumfrence of the circle, drawn perpendicular to the cord(24cm), bisects the chord
so u obtain a right angled triangl, one side = 12cm, another = x and the hypotenues = 8+x
therefor, (8+x)^2= 144 + x^2
x= 5cm
radius= 13 cm
