For someone who most likely did not, and I believe he has not, his career record is remarkable. Since 1996, his first full season, he has hit more than 30 home-runs and driven in more than a hundred runs in every season since then except for 1997 when he was just 21 years old.
As much as a jerk as he appears to be, to have hit 464 lifetime home-runs with a .305 batting average at the age of 30 is quite amazing. He will never be considered a popular player - much on the same line as a Barry Bonds - but playing it straight, in 10 years he might best Barry Bonds soon-to-be career home-run record and possibly a few others.

I doubt it he just doesn't look that big. His numbers have been pretty consistent over the years as well. No major jumps (i.e. Bret Boone, Brady Anderson).
