I got a nice van from Chryser. It is 2/2/3 seating, 4 door, the Chrysler Town & Country, really roomy, sporty, and I am single too. Lot roomier than my Ford Explorer.
But I see what you need is like a Ford Explorer or Expedition for example. The Expedition is just roomier, LOTS of headspace and room. Good and sporty too. Good for going out to fishing and camping. Two people could take it and sleep with bags in the back part. Remember they both are the same, more or less, except I would consider the Expedition the bigger version. You could buy a nice 94 Expedition and save the monthly payments.

Even if you only have 4 or 5 in one vehicle. That is a lot. As kids get older it will become more of an issue. If you don't want a mini van, then you need a station wagon or an SUV. I think that they are pretty much the same....it's just the luxury that changes along with a greater price. Maybe look at the Toyota SUV (4-Runner) and a Subaru or VW Passat Wagon. The wagons are a little better on gas mileage.

The key thing is safety, and compact cars are not as safe as midsized cars. I would not want to drive my kids around in a car that weighed less than 3,000 pounds in my opinion. A Toyota Camry would weigh about 3,300 pounds or so. A Toyota RAV4 would be a nice second vehicle that is more SUV like but still gets good 25 MPG gas mileage like the Camry.

You should get one that will save on fuel costs (Dodge Caliber AWD) and will keep you safe. You should get a second one for all the extra gear kids will require (Dodge Durango or Chrysler Pacifica)
