It's all scripted, which means it's fake and fixed. It is entertainment for many, but it's definitely not a sport. Sports are not scripted out.

You see: Professional wrestling pretty much IS fake... To an extent. Well, "pre-determined" is a more effective phrase to describe professional wrestling and to clear something up: Pro-wrestling isn't a sport, its labeled "sports-entertainment". I probably know just as much about pro-wrestling as you do, but I can say that I HAVE NOT been through any of the training programs because I thankfully become more intelligent before I decided to get into it for real.
The business aspect of it can be a bit, cut-throat, just like any other form of competitive business where the people are viciously ambitious and will do anything to succeed. One of the key things that most people overlook when it comes to pro-wrestling is the amazing athleticism of these people. These younger athletes could easily hang with basketball players, UFC fighters, and NFL ball players. Not to mention, alot of the pro's have won some excellent amateur wrestling championships, and they were outstanding competitors in their time. With the transition into the professional wrestling atmosphere, the pressure does not go away; it intensifies-especially in the bigger organizations.
Another point people miss: Is the fact that whether or not pro-wrestling is pre-determined, most of the athletes are there to be on the top; which is to be the heavyweight champion. The heavyweight title in the WWE isn't just handed out to any old jack***, its handed to someone who is strong, supremely confident, skilled, and someone who can represent the company.
Even though wrestling is pre-determined, it is still VERY dangerous, even moreso since weight-classes are pretty much non-existent. It is all coreographed as anyone might guess, but the athletes definetly take shots, and they definetly take a beating. Not necessarily something to brag about, but the wrestlers are still excellent athletes.
I personally think that wrestling is pretty stupid these days, because its basically the same routine over and over, yet the WWE still continues to sell out stadiums. Why is it that both wrestlers ALWAYS get up before the referee hits the ten count? Why isn't there ever a bout officially recorded as a KNOCKOUT?

Yes, you have to train to be a pro wrestler, but I have to say that wrestling is in fact fake. Fake Fake, no, but somewhat of it is. pain is real and yes they do have pain, so that's not fake, what I am trying to say is that in WWE the matches are already planned out, so the people know who is going to win, but the public/viewers do not. It's called entertainment so its only to entertain people. The blood is fake, because if you would bleed like Shawn Michaels bleeds you still won't be on your feet and fighting like in hell. Right, No. But anyways I respect your thoughts and your words cause everyone is aloud to think what they want, when they want, how they want. So believe on whatever you think is true and let everyone else think what they want, and about the profession think of course no one would like people saying that the profession they are taking is fake, you make a good point there, but I'll stick with my believes in the subject.

As a wrestler for a very very small indy run out of holyoke mass. I can tell you that wrestling is "fake" the term that should be used is staged. We use techniques that keep us from getting injured. The moves hurt, you cant have somebody fall on you and not have it hurt. The mat is stiff. the padding on it dosn't do much, its there to keep you from hitting the wood and steel under it but its not like falling into a bed. Wrestling hurts thats why you will see most wrestlers icing or applying heat to their bodies after a match. But real it is not. It hurts when u get punched or fallen on, it hurts worse being hit with a chair or going through a table or taking a bump on the outside. But we look out for eachother and thats what keeps us from getting injured. I hope this helps!

Anything that has a team of writers to determine the outcome is just a TV show. OK the grueling schedule is real. The bumps and bruises are real. The chairs are props and are not made of the same steel as the ones at your local Wal-Mart. They are made of a softer, lighter material. Sure these guys have to train and put their bodies through a lot, but its just not a true sport because the whole thing is staged.

Although I know that pro wrestlers are top atheletes, I think what most people mean by "fake" is that the outcomes of the matches are already predetermined. You guys are highly trained professionals and I respect that, but alot of what is seen has to be taken with a grain of salt. Accidents and actual injuries do occur (see owen hart, sid vicious, Stone cold).
Let's also take into account that it is, for the fans, entertainment.

There is real and there is fake.
What is real is the athleticism of the wrestlers. We know that they work out and they take a beating every week, maybe twice a week. They take a chance of getting hurt every time they go out there to "perform."
What people find fake are the story lines, and the drama that brings them back every week. It is a soap opera with fights. Whats better than that?
Most people know this. The only ones that don't understand this are the children. They take it very seriously.

Ok maybe fake is not the right term. However, the stuff on TV is most definitely staged. They rehearse the match beforehand and the winner is known ahead of time. Why do they not use their real names? Why do you think many go into show business? Also unfortunately, drugs are rampant in pro wrestling.

it is fake in the fact of the outcome, dear
all pro wrestling matches are pre-determined
no one questions the athletic qualities or the dedication these guys make
it is just entertainment tho, they say so
about 10 yrs ago, the state of new jersey passed a tax of $100,000 per sporting event
pro wrestling got out of paying by admiting they are just "entertainment"
look the cirque de soleil has amazing athletes
so does pro wrestling
they are both entertainmant
