Gay does not always mean homosexual. According to the dictionary it also means to be happy, content, or to be at peace. I always feel happy when I see a rainbow in the sky. It think this must be why they chose that symbol.

I would say to represent peace and harmony....to remind people that there are many colors in a rainbow just like there are many types of people. The colors are all together representing many different people and the colors coexist side by side in beautiful harmony as we should. This is what I think but I might be really wrong..
