I would like to open a non-profit organization, but I don't have a clue on how to do it. I have an excellent idea that would help the homeless, runaways, men and woman that are being abuse, low-income families and much more. Can any one explain to me what is the first step in starting a non- profit organization in the state of Florida.

You contact your local Corporation Commissioners Office by the State & they can provide you with the information & forms to file on opening a non-profit. I remember when I incorporated my business, most of the forms were also for non-profits too.
Hope that helps.

Your best chance it to go to a church group, or maybe the red cross, salvation army or similar group.
They do have a clue, and a lot of experience. They might even have had a similar idea and tried parts of it and can give you advice how to proceed.
