If I have light to medium brown eyes (definantly not dark) does that mean that I carry a recessive AND dominant color trait, or could it be possible that I have two dominant color traits and just happen to have a lighter shade.

Well I know that brown is dominant, I guess I didn't make myself clear. I was askin about the gene PAIR. ex: BB or Bb. either combination makes brown but do light brown eyes mean Bb or can they still be BB

Eye color is controlled by many genes, not just one. The version given in most textbooks is simplified to make a point in teaching. The real life inheritance of eye color is quite complex. See the attached site

Why is blue recessive? Because it is due to the absence of pigment. As soon as you have an allele that can cause melanin to be made then the blue will no longer be visible

the genotype can be either Bb or BB, brown eyes are a dominant trait, so if you have just one B allele you would have brown eyes, you just happen to produce a little less melanin for that gene, but you can have one or both of the brown genes to have brown eyes. hope this answers your question =]

I think this is the way it goes (I suppose you have hazel eyes?): brown is dominant over hazel, green, blue and gray; but green, hazel and gray (not sure about gray) are dominant over blue; and blue is dominant over albino eyes (pinkish). So, you can be heterozygous if you carry Aa - genes for hazel, and some recessive eye color, so your eyes are hazel, because hazel is dominant; or you can be homozygous which means you carry genes AA or aa (both hazel).
If you had got hazel and brown genes from your parents, your eyes would be brown.

The color of your eyes for brown is definitely dominant, blue for example is recessive. But the actual level of brown pigment for each individual depends on a multitude of factors including general health, diet, levels of hormones and enzymes, and disease and genetics. For example you have dominant brown eyes, you may have another genetic trait that affects a pathway or enzymes that make the levels of these pigments very low.

I think that all brown eyes have two dominant traits. You just got lucky to have a light brown eyes. Lucky lucky girl. Mine are so dark, it looks like I have no pupil.

Eye colour is determined by more than just one gene.

Hence yours are light brown, others are bluey grey, greyish green etc.
