They are not actually gay- I would consider all animal bisexual. Males, and in some species females, do not care about what the sex of the other is- basically just for pleasure or dominance. A dominant male (dog, horse, cat, lion, dolphin) will rape a subordinant male. A female cow in heat will be mounted by another female cow. It happens all of the time.

Male lions actually spend all of their time with another male- though that male is actually related. Female lions do most of the hunting and males protect the territory and females from other lions. The way their soceity works, two males (with no females) wouldn't have enough time to hunt and defend their territory for long.

I don't think animals think of it that way, but yes. Animals with use that as a form of dominance and maybe one male just gets along better with another specific male. Kind of like a best friend kind of thing. Then there are some animals that will just hump anything lol. But I don't think animals think about sexual orientation.

Studies and researches have shown that animals can be gay!

I have seen male dogs having SXX. It's kind of disgusting yet new to me!

Local newspaper reported that there is "gay" genes in sheep. You read the news? It's true! Just refer to thurday's Straits Times!

i am not sure you would necessarily categorize the animal as gay, but there are many species of animals that display homosexual behavior. generally, most animals will try to reproduce...the only way to keep your genes in the gene pool is by mating with another animal that will give you offspring. that's what they instinctively know how to do. but that doesn't mean that sometimes the animal doesn't perform "gay" behaviors". i am not sure though that they would have a monogamous sexual "relationship" with another animal of the same sex. but it is not to say that some behaviors are homosexual.
