How about a game program. Could be something already out there - chess, checkers, parchesi, poker, etc. - or you could come up with your own concept.
The challenge lies in the presentation to the user - the UI must be easy to use and good looking - and especially the AI. The program must be able to simulate a player the human can play against, and therefore must play a passable game of chess, checkers or whatever.

It is always better u work with database system with knowledge based and data mining facility. Implement the database system with Data warehouse and generates a lot of reports to help top management for decision making. Make database for a mobile company, their stock of mobile equipment, installation of equipments per day, area covered, area covered most people, most profitable area these should be there. Or u can make an accounting database which analyse different financial statement of a company and find different opportunities from traditional data facts.
