I am totally agree with you here..... why America is like that? Why American celebrities sort of like compete to each other to save the world while inside the USA itself there are so many hatred and wickedness? It makes me sick that our government and celebrities are spending so much time and money saving the rest of the world when there's so much to be done right here in the USA.

Because those people could vote. Then they would remember what it's like to be poor and wonder how they could change society and government so that it serves the people instead of the upper echelon of wealth. Instead, we see to it that they cannot get a job without a house, can't pay taxes without a job and can't vote without paying taxes. This is compounded with efforts to make them turn to crime, as to further invalidate them with felon status. At this point they can be forced to do whatever we tell them to as beings of disposable status.

The reason we even bother to go overseas to feed the hungry overseas is all a measure of Public Relations. Under the visage of humanity, our own voting populace is placated by the feel good images of little fly infested somalian AIDS babies being saved. They rest easier at night pretending that since they gave a dollar to Tammy Fay 5 years ago, they can spit on the vietnam war vet in front of the gas station. The government supports this wholeheartedly, as the people fed in international programs are still not US citizens, and therefore as elevated in status that they may become, they still won't be able to vote and change the system of our own self-serving government. Furthermore, the efforts made to feed such people are sparse at best, so it's not very costly. All one has to do is take 5,000 photos of the same 40 starving somalians and claim that we just fed 2 million. That way we only need to feed the bare minimum, and milk that humanitarian PR for all its worth.

This is the exact opposite of the miracle where Jesus split two loaves of bread and fed the thousand, mind you.

hello. I'm a humanitarian my-self and I take care of the homeless and people who have homes but are needy in the county that I live in. However in my opinion... this country makes it so difficult to bring in someone into your home who is homeless without being fined, have charges pressed against you, or if you're living in government housing, you can lose your right to live there by helping the homeless. This happened last winter in Xenia, Ohio.
When you do try to help the homeless and get them help, safety and food, you run onto so much red tape that it's not funny! We have agencies that do help homeless, but some of them have such strict and unbarable rules to them that the general public can't just "go in and help" and restaurants can't just "donate food" as fear that they can be sued.
There's permits that you have to get if you have too many people living in your home, there's way too many laws that keep people from helping the homeless as they should. I say, "Help others as you would want them to help you." At least you'll know that you did the right thing and not turned your back on them. I help people in my country first and then in other countries.

Sincerely, Shelia.

Problem is the government has closed down by CourtOrder the insane assylums and let the people shift on the streets for themselves. That was done in early 1970's

With that said, those other lazies out there in the world are well taken care of with welfare payments, food stamps, and free medical care in my state. My property taxes show the same cost for welfare as for education. Seems there is a whole bunch of lazies out there paning off of the state. Time to cut them off . Let of a few of those starve and freeze and set an example. The others will soon go to work then~!!!

I personally know the Manager of a Kroger store. What are they buying with welfare payments and food stamps???Sure some are buying food, others are buying $35 birthday cakes and prepackaged foods and T bones. while not doing a days worth of work. Time to cut them off!!!

You do gooders are ruining this country. Our ancestors came here and worked hard taking care of them selves. You people want the govenment to do everything for you. Pretty soon even wipe your butts!!!

Because American culture isn't exactly big on helping its own, and when it does,it's a fashion statement. There's no idea of community or gadugi (working together) in mainstream American culture.

Also, helping others halfway around the world is another fashion statement. Notice all the celebrities--they're doing that in the same exact vein as they would buy a designer handbag and carry it around. It's no more than "Look what I can do!" Those who really do help NEVER make a press conference out of it.

Oh, and to the guy below--Not all of our ancestors had to come here :) and we worked hard to make a living for ourselves, only to have it taken away and 9/10 of our people sent to Oklahoma. Don't give me that "we came here for a better life" line because there's little sympathy on this end.

Great question! I don't understand it either. We need to care of home..before we take care of neighbors. It's very frustrating to be living in the Land of the Free...Home of the Brave when us little people are barely making ends meet, while the people in political offices live high on the hog. We spend billions of dollars helping other countries, when ours is in desperate need of help. I guess that's what the saying "can't see the trees because of the forest" (or is that vice-versa?) comes from. I don't mind helping others, but I don't think we should be out helping others all the time, when we need it here so bad.

Our homeless and hungery people pose no threat or offer any profits to be made. That's why the government doesn't do anything. As for the citizens who have money to donate to causes often do not realize the numbers of Americans who are as bad off as those in foreign countries. Plus there are commercials all the time for the groups who cater to overseas homeless people, but there are rarely any commercials for domestic help groups. If they raise awareness the money should start to flow in.

Because our country offers more help to the homeless and downtrodden than any country on earth.

I volunteer in shelters, and believe me, no one in our country has to go hungry!

In other countries, particularly places like Bolivia, Haiti, and many many parts of Africa, people are DYING for lack of food and even water---something no one in this country even comes close to doing without.

I understand what you are asking----but would you really just want to make sure that every man, woman and child in the U.S. is taken care of so that they have COMFORTABLE lives, while letting our brothers and sisters all over the world die?

I was wondering about that too. We are too busy trying to help other countries around the world to make ourselves look better when in our own country we have the same problem. We have homeless, starving kids, and the unemployed. We need to focus and fix our problems first so we can set the example for everyone else.

Its like denial... we don't help the people in our own country because then that would mean that something wasn't working right... some people in the US have a notion that everyone had a fair chance... if they wanted a job they could get one...
I commend you on your compassion towards our co-patriots... I'm sure there are a lot of people here (in US) that feel the same way... the only way to really get it done is like the christian children's fund... get some govt $$ make some commercials and get people to 'adopt' for a nominal amount of $ per day...
