My Xspouse gained custody of my two kids, because I had very poor representation. Fired that atty, now he keeps dragging me into court over past due child support. I obviously can not afford to hire a new attorney and they all want big retainer fees.

He got custody of your two kids because the judge saw something he didn't like.....custody is almost never given to the man unless the mother has drug/psychological issues. It seems to me you may need more than a lawyer......and PAY your child support.

Go to legal aid. Or just wait it out and save up your money. I hate to be a total a_s_s here but if you are behind on child support and can't afford a lawyer, how can you afford to take care of your two kids?
Get on your feet, take care of yourself, save your money, and give it another go.

Gideon v. Wainright: that court decision made it mandatory for a court appointed lawyer to be granted to someone who cannot afford one. The lawyer may not be a good one, but the lawyer will be granted.

What does being female have to do with it? You don't think males ever have these problems?? There are free legal aid in most states.
