My doctor did one after he confirmed my pregnancy. So, I just set up another appointment and a week later I had an ultrasound. He likes to make sure everything is fine rather than get a call that something happened to one of his patients. And, I think it great - especially since I had a miscarriage once already.
I was 4 weeks when I found out so I was 5 or 6 weeks when I had my first with this pregnancy. I was four weeks with my last pregnancy.

Sonagrams use sound waves. X-Rays use radiation. There is no radiation exposure to the baby with an ultrasound.
To date the pregnancy they can perform an ultrasound around 6-8 weeks.

You usually have to be only around 8 weeks. When you get your sonogram done the doctor will tell you exactly how far along you are.

If you are unsure of your dates, then the doc orders an ultrasound at about 7-10 weeks along.

To see the gender ? 21 weeks.
Any time after 6-8 weeks ,I'd say, to see baby (safer that way against radiation waves).

Your best bet is to count on the sonogram. It's the most accurate. Because the measurements tell them about when the baby was conceived.

usually doctors don't do them until 20 weeks, but they can be done as early as a few weeks to make shure the baby is where it's sapost to be. good luck!
