Think about it, after last years elections, and polls show over 66% of Americans disagree with bush, and he refuses to listen. He's said even if it was just him, his wife, and dog, he would still stay the course. Sounds more like a dictator to me...

Also, think about this, say Hillary Clinton wins the presidency, thatll be TWENTY FOUR YEARS that this country has been ruled by the same two families, say she wins 2 terms, thatll be 28 years.

Starting to seem a little fishy to me... History tells us the average lifespan of a democracy is around 200 years, and were passed that... Thoughts?

Ok people, i understand that america is not a democracy. But the principles of a democracy are what we were founded on. All your beloved pundits can throw the word around, even our president. So save all your "techicnall" garbage for some one else. We all know that america is NOT a democracy.

Thankfully, we still have enough of our original republic available to us in the Constitution that we may just be able to save it. However, it is not JUST Bush's fault, or JUST the Clintons' fault, or JUST one person's fault (although I'm deeply inclined to point fingers at FDR); the fact that two families have ruled for the past twenty years is little more than coincidence, as each ran separately and won separately.

Another thing we have going for us is that we never started out as a democracy; in the beginning, we were supposed to be a republic, which is even less restrictive than a democracy and allows for the greatest level of individuality. That may lengthen our lifespan significantly, if you want to base predictions for our future on a statistic. Unfortunately, we abandoned the republic some time in the early 20th century (possibly earlier), and are now slowly but surely moving toward socialism. Wonderful side-effect of this "progress."

Well, luckily for us, we're a Federal Republic, not a Democracy. A true Democracy would not work in this country; it would take FAR too long to implement anything.

Bush, for all that he is, is not a dictator. If he decided to, say, disavow the Constitution, dismiss Congress, and run the military through the streets, then yes, he'd be a dictator. But he's not going to do that; he CAN'T do that. He's overly stubborn, not hell-bent on becoming a supreme ruler.

As far as the Bush- Clinton- Bush- Clinton thing, remember that she has not won yet. Also, those two families represent two very different ends of the political spectrum. Dictatorships don't flop back and forth.

But yes, not too much has changed. At least nothing that can't be undone.

President Bush was elected by the people of America not once but twice. In 2004 he received more votes than any president in history! The "polls" are oft time skewered.

Presidents govern--not rule. We have checks and balances.

Americans DID elect Bush. They did many recounts using different standards and the only way "Gore won Florida" is if you count ballots with Gore's box punched AND someone else's name punched as votes for Gore only.

We never WERE a Democracy. We ARE and have always been a REPUBLIC. That is a REPRESENTIVE DEMOCRACY. WE ELECT LEADERS. We are still electing leaders. If we want our Republic back then we need to VOTE. That is our power.

Americans elected Bush through the established democratic system. Once in office, he has no obligation to listen to you.
