It makes little sense but seeing is believing. My guess is that nathan had his mind wiped of the experience and that is why Melinda has been on the run ever since. She knows that if she shows up then Bennett and his group will wipe her memory as well. She spoke to him saying "I am not sure you remember me but our daughter just visited me." Sounds like something a political candidate would hear. Perhaps they erased his mind about the flying too until Peter reminded him of what happened in the car.

Can YOU believe that I knew who Claire's dad was. No one would listen when I kept talking about the trailer that showed the forearms with the sleeves rolled up - that's how Nathan wears his shirts all the time. All you have to do is watch. Besides, if you haven't figured it out, all these people seem to have some connection to each other that they don't even know about. Watch and see.

I kept seeing the watch...so I was wondering if Sylar was going to be her dad...lolol. Well, I'm glad it was Nathan....that was pretty cool.
