after putting the key code in there is no next stage what am i doing wrong

Could be few problems, video card don't support game, you do not have directx 9.0c, maybe the code is already used unless this is a brand new copy

Take it back to where you bought it. If it is a bootleg or counterfit copy then you deserve what you have, nothing workable and ten dollars lighter.
