Society (all of us) have decided that more is better. We prove it by buying more and spending more. More debt, more income, more Christmas gifts, more, more more. The more you have the better you must be. More marriages... I am not happy, bring on the next one that will make me happy. Our kids are the worst yet... More game systems... gotta have them all... and all the games... more, more, more... funny how the kids today for the most part are either staying home longer or moving back because they can't keep up and support themselves as well. Sad, the only escape is death... we built this capitalist society though, we are to blame.

Can't we be concerned about both ? Maybe you're right, we'd be far better off if we all sat under the tree and meditated for twenty years. Or sat on the peak of the mountain staring up at the sky trying to figure out the distance to the end of space.
You're condemning materialistic things, but I'll bet you don't live in a cave and wear a bear skin.
These "distractions" are the signs of progress. So far as your other statement about cheating movie stars go, that's just gossip. Gossip has been with us since the beginning of time. It's not about to go away. As for me, I think about movie stars and celebrities as often as they think of me.

Exactly! That is what I wish for every day.
I'm all upset about this war, the fact that I have three boys who could be drafted, and our politics in general.
My six children, on the other hand, spend their entire paychecks on video games, DVDs and CDs, new cell phones, new game systems, etc. They are adults now; two are married--and should really be looking beyond these silly things. They say if the world's going to end anyway, they might as well have some fun.

This is human nature.[ sin] ,glutoney, The people that speak untruthes say that gain is godliness, but, the scriptures say that godliness with contentment is great gain. The bible says'' the root of all evil is the love of money. Some that receive Christ, will set their desires on him instead of material things. The more important things to follow after are righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 1 timothy 6:5-10.

Most of "what's really going around" is about material stuff, too... poverty, disease, war is all about material stuff or the lack of it.
It's the existance of materialistic things (food, clothing, medicine...) in abundance that gives us the luxury of worrying about silly stuff.

Not unless wealth is and prestige are out of the picture, because wealth and social status drives our society. If we ever overcome those issues then i think it could be.

It is normal to want things, (note I didn't say it is right). Who does not want the ability to buy whatever they want whenever they want?
The thing to remember is that while there are many people who have way more than us, there are even more people who have way less than us.
Also, we don't keep our belongings when we die, we keep our soul.
