i suspect the distribution isnt that uneven, but the exposure is. also, gays dont stay where they cant live, like anybody else.

It has nothing to do with the pollution. Many times a level of acceptance is the issue as to whether or not gays are seen but simply because you don't see them does not mean that they aren't there. People do not "turn" gay. Many may have had previous relationships with the opposite sex simply because of outside pressures and the like but most if not all know whom they are attracted to, even if they don't admit it.
If you have friends that come out, it is because the level of acceptance where they are makes them comfortable enough to "be" out. People don't change, what you know about them changes. They are still the same person you always knew, it's how YOU look at them that is different.

The smaller the town the fewer people will be gay just because of %'s.
Also, it is not easy to be gay in a small town. If a person is gay and out, they are more likely to be harassed. So gay people stay hidden in smaller towns or move to bigger cities.

Actually, I am a gay person from a rural environment. We are here, we just don't shout it out. Our friends and family know, we just don't pick up guys in front of them. Its a respect thing. Trust me, hang around a few days, we'll be more than happy to make your acquaintance, but don't expect us to come running like roaches when the lights are turned on, lol.

Because people of many differnet lifestyles move to the cities for acceptance and freedom. There is more to do and more people to interact with on a daily basis and you are more likley to be able to be accepted.
