Has it ever been 'unsafe'?
In what respect? Personal safety or accidents?
You cannot pick your nose on LUL property without it being recorded on CCTV - and of course entry to almost every station is through a manned ticket barrier. So Its unlikely you'll be raped/mugged/assaulted. As for accidents - well terrorism aside, you are probably considerably safer on a train or on a platform than you are on the street. Relax. There's too much paranoia in London.

We Are Londoners We Are One

We will not let anyone stop us from doing what we have to do.

I use the tube practically everyday and terrorism is the last thing on my mind. After 7/7 the mainline rail services were restored the same day and the tube was restored the next day.

We will never forget the events of 7/7 yet we do not hold them in our conscious mind. Life goes on.

Yes but these things are always relative, what is safe for me a big 6' tall bloke might not be safe for you. I guess from your handle you are a girl...so maybe don't travel alone too late at night (say after 10:30) try not to find yourself in tube cars alone find one that's got people in (the tube can be surprisingly empty at remote stations at night) In general the tube in central London is very safe even at night more likely to be hassled than any real danger. As for terrorism etc forget it .... I travel on the tube every week and don't worry about it

As safe as any other public transport in London. There is an element of risk no matter how you travel - i.e. crashes on the bus, dodgy mini cabs, etc. The Underground has CCTV everywhere as well.

The Underground or 'Choob' as we Londoners call it, is very safe indeed. There is CCTV everywhere. Just relax, read your newspaper and enjoy the experience.

Aside from the disaster on 7/7 it's statistically one of the safest modes of transport in the world.

As with any form of transport in any city in the world, just be sensible. Keep hold of your bag, travel in a carriage with other passengers, don't let yourself be distracted from what's going on around you.
