2 stroke, no way. that oil needs to be mixed with the gas. 4 stroke, still no way. motorcycles need heavier oil than cars. usually cars use 10w40...and that is too thin. mc oil is 20w50. if u dont run the right weight oil, u can wind up overheating it if this is an air cooled bike.

Not sure with 2 cycle but will disagree with you having to use motorcycle oils.I agree you should match blends but I saw a independent survey done on oils used in motorcycles.Three of the brands were Harley,Honda and I think Kawasaki and the other three were Mobile,Castrol Syn and Quaker State. All were run in motorcycles and lab tested after each run.I believe 10,000 miles each.Long runs, short runs and hard runs.Mobile One in 20/50 came in first with the heat and breakdown, some 12 point ahead of Castrol Syn 20/50.Neither of the motorcycle oils came close to either.I do not no for sure but I don't think that any motorcycle company make oil.But I really don't think that Mobile or Castrol is making it for them. The study was done at a college and had no ties to the above companies. So you can pay 10.00 a quart if you wont too.

Sorry to disagree with the above comments, But if the oil is for the gearbox and NOT the reservoir for the 2 stroke pre mix the you CAN use car oil so long as it is the correct type most performance bikes run on 10w40 including my 16 year old GSXR1100 any oil heavier used than this ie-15w/20w will cause oil starvation and overheating.
if you do use 10w40 car oil go for a good quality semi synthetic.
if unsure of the grade of oil phone a yamaha dealer or buy a workshop manual
hope this helps.

Running a bike with oil designed for cars is a no-no....You might get away with it for a little while...but it is going to *uck your bike up...big time!
