I was one who hated using public restrooms. At that time I would hol it until I either got home or stand up half way over the toilet to pea. I finally figured out away to use the public restrooms with no worries. When I first walk in I grab a paper towel or toilet paper (because some restrooms only have hand driers') wipe down the toilet. After I wash my hands I grab a paper towel/toilet paper to open the door. The reason I grab the paper is,you have no idea how many people went in or out of the restroom without washing their hands. I will say I still have the phobia though, because if I walk into the restroom and I see one toilet not flushed or any garbage on the floor I will walk right out of that restroom and I will complain to the manager. Then I will hold it until I get home or to a cleaner bathroom.

I have a severe phobia about using public restrooms. The hard part for me now is with my 5 year old daughter. I make sure she goes to the bathroom before we leave the house because I'm can't bear to think of her using it at a store. I try not to think about her at school because I would drive myself insane. I've tried to teach her to make sure she checks the seat before she sits (she's too small to squat). I've even talked with the pediatrician about this and he told me that she won't catch anything from sitting on the toilet. I have OCD and am so afraid of all germs. I know it's irrational but after my daughter had her seizures from fevers I'm so afraid of her getting sick and having another seizure.

I use the paper toilet seat covers some provide or "hover" over the top and do what needs to be done. I than wash my hands really well (20 seconds) and dry with a paper towel using my forearm or elbow to push the tab down for the towel to dispense. than use the towel to open the door and leave.

Here in the UK we generally find that our public conveniences are kept clean enough so that the simple "now please wash your hands" suffices to deal with such germs as are likely to be found in them and we don't need to don white smocks first and go through a disinfecting chamber after we've used one.

I am a female,& I work in construction. I do not use the porta-potty at work. If I have to go I will go to the store. There is no way for a guy to wash his hands afterward. That is why I dont shake hands with anyone at work...........lol

well i used to have such problems, but eventually i taught myself to stop this, gradually did all those things. i used to be terrified of public bathrooms because they are insanitary. you can use the toilet from whatever restaurant seems cleanest to you and you should have wet hankies and normal tissues with you
