'The New Statesman' has an article that claims the average Londoner is monitored by some 300 cameras a day. Some 1,800 cameras are said to watch over London's railway stations, while another 6,000 watch you on the Underground or on London Buses.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg! There are some scary figures here - including the fact that the UK has a whopping 20 PER CENT of the world's CCTV cameras!!

On average while you are in London, you can expect to be photographed by CCTV about 300 times per day.
The most heavy concentration of CCTV in London is along the length of Oxford Street.
In addition to the 'street cams', most shops these days also have CCTV which points outwards as well as inwards. This means you're on camera as you walk past a shop.
To sum up, London is the most heavily defended city on earth.

well there are 700 cameras in the 2 square miles around oxford street. and more are being set up all the time. I used to live in Charlton SE london, if i caught a train from my home to where i used to live in Nottingham a journey or 140 miles there wasnt one time that i wouldnt be captured on camera
It would be impossible to find out the numbers of cctv numbers around alot are hidden and there whereabouts are pretty much secret

I shouldnt think anybody knows, lol heard that people in London are captured on camera atleast every 3 seconds though!

Enough to see whatever it is you are doing.
More are installed to cover blindspots and many overlap, I know for a fact I am caught by at least 10 cameras just walking to Sainsbury's
I really don't mind it, makes me feel safer. I don't buy into the big brother paranoya, I know they aren't watching me specifically.
