Service pack 2 is a nightmare, it's probably tangled up your software. Look for the manufacturer of your sound card on the net and download the latest drivers for XP Pro. If you're not sure what sound card you have, right click on my computer, go to hardware and device manager. If that doesn't work, download the everest diagnostic tool (search furrit)

Possible explanation only: - Your XP Home had the drivers appropiate for your soundcard. Your XP Pro does not. Might want to look into it. Your computer wouldn't recognize the speakers themselves I don't believe. But it should recognize the sound card.

Need to install updated Drivers.
You may have had the previous drivers okay, but they need a reinstall; also, check in device manager to see if there are any errors there, you can also update the Drivers there, but Download new Drivers for your Card, and Speakers first.
