Well, what do they expect, given that (i) the USA and UK is dominantly caucasian (ii) terrorism is pretty high on the political agenda and (iii) 99.9 % of the time, modern terrorism involves Muslims who look distinctly arabic?

The question was what do they expect?
If the tables were turned and a community of caucasian christians set up in foreign climbs. Generally keeping themselves to themeselves. Then a handful of them started plotting death to the natives in the name of god, do you think they would all be tarred with the same brush or do you think they would be welcomed with open arms? Think about it for a minute.

If you were Muslim in the UK and you couldnt walk down the street without being stopped and searched or feeling that you are a police suspect, then you would think that this was a police state.
Try thinking what it must be like for the average law abiding muslim citizen in the UK. They are all being lumped in together with the terrorists, by the press and the government.
And the terrorists are not muslims, they just call themselves so.

We will not make any progress as a society until we stop having such an "us and them" mentality. I would be very offended if presumptions were constantly made of me because of my skin color or country of orgin. The fact that the US and the UK are dominantly Caucasian is irrelevant. A just society does not condone or value racism. Furthermore, it is bad policing to assume because someone is a Muslim that they are also a terrorist.
Also remember that many Muslims are citizens of the US or the UK and deserve the same treatment as any other citizen.
There must be more evidence than someone's ethnic background in order to justify them as a threat. Think back to the human rights abuses commited against Japanese Americans during WWII in internment camps. If anything, the treatment of Muslims in the US and the UK with regard to terrorism is an indication that we have not yet fully learned the lessons from the past.

But the guys who were arrested in Birmingham UK apparently (I use this loosely) we're not Arabs-they were Muslims of a different part of the world (Asia!).
"A police state for Muslims(in regards to the UK)" is what one of the arrested (later freed) young guys said the UK was for Muslims.
What do you expect him to say when hes freed with no charges etc? Anyone who is arrested for ANY crime and later freed with no charges will channel their anger however they see fit. The UK is a free country where freedom of speech exists. If you want to go about arresting people because they look a certain way are you telling me the police should pick up every woman in a short skirt because shes a hooker?!

I can understand why some Muslims are upset. Of the nine arrested in Birmingham last week, 3 have been released without charge and the other have been charged with Terrorist Offences - which previously would have been called Conspiracy to Kidnap and Conspiracy to Murder. Where is the 'Terror' in that.
It seems that no matter what you do wrong, if you are Muslim or Arab it becomes a Terror issue....

Nowhere near that proportion of terrorists are Islamic. But maybe if they sampled Saudi they would be a little more tolerant of our (far from perfect) society. In fact you are many times more likely to be run over than even MEET a terrorist,,,,but that is politics for you.

Did you watch Question time last night?
well i think muslims have a responsitiliby in helping in prevent terrorism. of course its going to be like a police state what do you expect........ oh yeah, you already said that. after all if they are living in britain, dont you think they have a right to be playing a role in helping us all ensure a safer, terrorism free britain.
i think muslims need to be more tolerant. you dont have to go against your relegion to do this. Mind you im a muslim myself.

Well... I think you'll find the UK is becoming a police state for EVERYONE.
ID cards, more CCTV than anywhere in the world, tracking devices in cars, biometric passports, X-ray scanners, warrantless phone tapping... etc etc...
And we're supposed to believe this is a free democratic society??!

I agree that Muslims are complaining about nothing. Of course we are going to target them if the terrorism is coming from their community. Its not racist its just the sad reality. Other ethnic minorities have successfully integrated into UK society, so why can't they? I suggest that it is because they do not want to integrate, in which case, why are we letting them stay and undermine our freedoms?

I think we just simply have to stop all the hatred, negativity, paranoia and wickedness from our heart. Useless to blame both part like this, won't resolve anything at the end.
As simply as that.
