Beacuse of the overpopulation in China, the Chinese government has limited married couples to having only one child. Therefore, to keep the family name, couples usually only keep a baby boy, giving girls up for adoption or aborting them. They spoil their only child; a boy (little emperor).

OK, you know that China is a big nation, right? Lots of people live there. They were worried about overpopulation, so they made a law that (with some exceptions) limited families to just one child. So, only having one child, they would tend to make a fuss over that precious little darling--the "Little Emperor."
In China, the children are expected to care for their parents in their old age--puts a burden on the only child, especially if that child is a daughter. That is one reason there are so many more boys than girls growing up in China--may cause instability, possibly a need for war, as those children reach the age of marriage.

Simple: China has an over-population problem. Their government's way of dealing with it is to put a limit on the number of children a family can have. If a husband & wife decide to have children, they must first report it. Then, they can start trying to have children. Remember, boys are worth more than girls so, if their first child is a girl, they are allowed to terminate the pregnancy to try again for a boy.

The policy is people are prohibited from having a second child. So if the child is not a male, many women are aborting, drowning or abandoning the little girls. Its a deplorable, shameful policy that is causing millions or little girls to die.
And once again, the UN does nothing.
