x/6 - a million = 5 first you want to isolate x on one aspect. hence you want to isolate x on the left fringe of the equation because it is going to likely be a lot less complicated. x/6 = 5 + a million (upload 1to both aspect with the intention to cancel out the minus a million) x = 6 x 6 (multiply six to both aspect to cancel the six interior the denominator x = 36
