When in a chat room, do you find that males or females tend to take a sarcastic comment as an insult??

OK. I think it really depends on the writer, in a chat room. Sarcasm can be an art form and yet sometimes it can be a passive aggressive dig. When you're in a chat room, you're normally chatting with strangers so, the two variables are this: Does the writer have the ability to write sarcasm successfully; which is difficult since normally it comes through in the tone of voice. And two, does the other person understand sarcasm. For instance, recently I found myself being IMed by a non-native English speaker. When I became sarcastic he didn't understand because apparently they don't say things that they don't mean in India.

I have known some really immature females take words and turn them around and think they were sarcastic and get offended, they were not even sarcastic. I have long since gone into any chatrooms because I am in nobody's clique, not do I want to be. =)

Majority? I would say females. Though, it certainly is a mix of dumb people in general. If everyone would lighten up a bit, the world would be a much better place. Now, let's see how many find that offensive.

most females and the stupid males, any guy with an ounce of intelligence or humour, generally doesn't find sarcasm insulting

omg firstly i don't agree with the person above at all. and it really just depends what ur being sarcastic about. and also on the person who ur being sarcastic with. u can't really say. anyway can find anythin insulting. depends on all sort of different ppl . but yeh maybe females wud find it more insultin than males

in chat rooms, i dont know about that but in real life i think women tend to take it more seriously. but it all depends on the person, everybody is different.

I don't go to chat rooms but in life in general I find women can dish it out but can't take it.

well, people in real life take then as insults also. they just arent as open about it because they are cowards sitting behind a computer all day. buck up!
