Does it matter which one you see first? I want to see both but never got around to Flags while it was in the theater. It is out on video now. Should I see it before I see the Letters one or does it not really matter?

I haven't seen Letters, which I heard was good, but Flags of our Fathers was god awful...what a waste, I paid $8 to take a nap in the movie theater

believe me, go see Letters and don't waste your time on Flags

As long as you know something about the battle of Iwo Jima, you can see them in any order. Flags is mostly about the famous flag raisers, and didn't go into the battle much at all. The Letters movie is more unknown, since literally none of the Japanese survived to tell their story.

I don't think it matters; both are completely self-contained. They look at the same sequence of events, but from completely different perspectives.

I enjoyed "Letters from Iwo Jima" MUCH more than "Flags of Our Fathers." I found the Japanese telling of the story much more engaging. I thought that "Flags of Our Fathers" suffered from trying to tell too many different stories, jumping back and forth in time, etc.

i do no longer think of they are appropriate - merely the comparable director (Clint Eastwood) Flags of our fathers got here out in theatres first - i've got seen that one yet no longer letters from Iwo Jima yet.

It doesn't matter. They are told from different perspectives, not different time periods. I would watch Letters as soon as possible...it is such an amazing film.
