I was once a great admirer of the Americans but my opinion has now altered after what has been called 'Blew on Blew'. 1 Corporal was killed, several injured and 2 tanks destroyed when they fired on one of our convoys by mistake. Once the error had been made they left instead of defending until land support arrived to help. The pilot who committed this atrocity was from Iowa and the comments from there are what I object to, they were completely derogatory about the British and declared the pilot a hero. They said we were not doing enough in the war and did not do enough in World War II. How dare they! Surely it is time we left them to the war in Iraq. I am British and believe it is time we left the far East to itself and played a bigger part in the affairs of Europe. Your comments please!

Americans invented friendly fire. Back in World War II the Allied troops used to say:

"When the British bomb the Germans run
When the German bomb the British run
When the Americans bomb every bugger runs!"

My dad was a British Army WWII Veteran and remembers his (clearly marked) British signals truck convoy being fired on by American planes on several occasions.

He also remembers an incident on Monte Casino, Italy, when the Americans bombed a Monastery and Hospital (which was clearly marked on the roof) and dad and his colleagues spent a "pleasant" weeked picking corpses out of the trees.

This was 60 years ago and they have not changed one little bit.

As for the callous and arrogant comments they made about Britain and the British Army I imagine thats because they are too arrogant and are unable to humble themsleves and say sorry.

Puffed up people always have trouble admittig they did something wrong and love blaming it on someone else.

When the US Top gun Schmidt, bombed and killed 4 Canadians and wounded 9 others, his home base town in Illinois had Bake Sales and any thing else they could do to raise money for his defence. His wing man apologized to the families and resigned from the AF. The pilot went against air force procedure and the advice of his wing man, but he bombed regardless. Yet his hometown folk saw him as a hero. The USAF has since grounded him permanently. This occurred in Afghanistan near the outbreak of hostilities. Two of the dead were from the Halifax area in Nova Scotia. Believe me , we had a different opinion of the bast&#d.

Having served in the Para's for 10 years and having seen a bit of action in my time I accept that these things happen, but it seems to happen a lot more with the Yanks. Looking at the video it does seem like an accident and the pilots do seem remorseful, but why did the Yanks not acknowledge the existence of the tape and help with the enquiry. It would have helped the family to grieve properly.

The widow of the soldier was an inspiration, she did not want revenge she only wanted the truth.

These sort of events only add to the balls up of being in Iraq and fighting for a lie purported by two deceitful governments, and two politicians who want to leave their mark in history, well they have now for the wrong reasons.

Iraq is in the Middle East, no Far East; and it's 'blue-on-blue'.

Frankly, I'm astonished at the amount of coverage the death of one British soldier has received. Tragic and all, especially given the specific circumstances - but a hundred or so are dying in Iraq EVERY DAY, and this is now accepted as 'normal'. That's the real scandal.

Yes, I agree, I wish the war were over. War is a terrible, terrible thing. Accidents happen, friendly fire casualties are nothing new, they happen in every war. As far as Britain pulling out, I would agree perhaps not for the killing of 1 soldier but for ending the war.

Then they wonder why brits do not like them.Like you the sooner we get 100% per cent into Europe the better & leave America do its own dirty work.If they had not been bombed in the WW11 they would not have entered & we only finished last year paying them back the money we had to borrow during WW11.They crippled our country.

Of course I was outraged, but it is not reasonable to judge an entire population for the actions of a few dim-wits, whether they be soldiers or politicians.

I'm British. During all wars mistakes are made. This is the nature of any armed conflict. Weather you die by friendly fire or die through engine failure on your way to battle. If there are some people with no sympathy for the dead let them have their say. Don't judge all by the few.

I was completely flabbergasted when I heard that report yesterday. We were on our knees in the last world war, not sucking our thumbs. It was'nt until the japanese bombed Pearl Harbour that they came into the war, for which we were very thankful. I have always held the American people in high regard, but after hearing that yesterday, I wonder if many of them think like that.
