This is all handled through the county. The forms, paper work, back tax issues, assessment requirements, etc., are handled at the county's main administrative building in St. Joseph. This isn't as easy as you think -- especially in Berrien County. Issues in the past regarding seized, abandon and unclaimed property in Benton Harbor have lead to an additional raft of concerns that need to be addressed with each piece of property you're looking at taking over.

I'm not sure, but depending on the property and why it's in the state it's in, you may have to deal with state and federal concerns. If the property is part of a drug seizure, plan on talking to the federal courts in Kalamazoo.

Good luck. Hope this isn't too big of a headache for you. --Andy
