How come when you tell someone that you lost something, the first thing they ask you is where did you put it. Do you think a stupid question deserves a stupid answer?

I think what they mean is when is the last time you saw it.

I know but it's almost like an uncontrollable first reaction when someone says that. Or when they ask "well where did you last have it" Well why the heck didn't I think of that?? Man, it should have never been lost in the first place!

I know if you lost it obviously you don't know were you last put it I think they answer that because thats the first thing that comes to there mind.

I have often wondered the same thing myself.

If someone says something like that to me, I just say, "If I knew that, then it wouldn't be lost."

Sometimes, lol. Its just the natural response of ppl. Where did you have it last? They try to get them to remember what they were doing and where.*
