I need the absolute most basic directions on how to install wireless cards into my computers and the other pieces I need to set up wireless in my house. I'm not familiar with wireless procedures, however I have installed a cd burner into my computer before so I'm not totally computer dummified. ; )
Thanks!

you want to install a wireless card...is this an internal or external card?

internal [unlikely] requires you to open up your computer

external - on the side of your laptop there should be a card side port which fits your card you can put that into there

for desktops, wireless cards tend to be USB so plug into a spare USB port.

however most new laptops have an integrated wireless (in which case just use the software)

for desktops I'd recommend using an Ethernet wire

if you have a router you can access the config to it via internet explorer (see your manual)

I dont think installing a CD rom and a wireless card are anything similar but its worth a shot.

You are going to need a wireless router if you dont already have one. You will need two wireless cards, normally PCI if you have a desktop or if you have a laptop you can use a USB wireless card or a PCMCIA card.
Each of these devices come with an install instruction so follow the manuals and you should be fine. YOU CAN DO IT!

1. Call SBC to set up the wireless, even if you got a wireless routher (2wire) they have to turn the wireless signal on. They also provide you with the Key number that you need to be able to connect.

2. In the box with the Modem should have came a CD. You need to run that on each computer to set up to be able to connect with the 2wire.

3.Sbc can provide you with external wireless cards... for about 60 bucks each. If you buy them at .. best buy for example.. most things like that are plug and play which means the software is in the card, so when you plug it .. it should install by itself.

4. The internet , and all phones should be connected with the special connecters they provided to seperate the digital internet signal from the phone signal.

The telephone company will go thru it with you for free.. But I would try to save some money and have at least one directly plugged to the modem with a cord. then you only have to buy one wireless card
