What are some of your responses to really stupid questions coming from people that obviously are too stupid to be a functioning part of society? Do you get mad? Feel sorry for them? Shake your head in disbelief and move on? Tell them off? Patiently steer them in the right direction? Do you wonder if they are really a 10 year old asking the question?
Please help-I try to take legitimate questions seriously. But there are really some stupid people out there and its hard to maintain control some days!
Any help would be great!
Thanx

I think most questions should be taken seriously even if the asker isn't, for the benefit of visitors to this site who may legitimately want to know the answer to a similar question. I think that answering an abusive question with abuse creates the wrong impression of gays and lesbians in the minds of others who visit and read these answers and comments. We should try hard not to sink to the level of the abusers, no matter how good it feels to be show off how intellectually and morally superior to them we are.

I admit I can't resist "putting them in their place" sometimes, but the truth is it doesn't phase them and is a waste of time. The best thing to do in those cases it just to hit the abuse button (usually harassment or slurs/epithets is the reason to use) and move on.

And yes, I'm curious to know the age of the asker. Sometimes you can tell by the wording ("Why do gay men like to 'play' with other men and not 'play' with women?"), but not always. Sometimes you tell by their previous questions and answers or at least the categories they've been in. And it makes a big difference what answer you give to a 10 year old rather than a teen or an adult. I would never confirm to a child that he's gay--like that 12 year old Brit yesterday), no matter how he says he feels. Or even a young teen. Until their sex drive is fully developed, their orientation isn't really set in most cases.

The stupid people who don't care who they're addressing in their answers are the ones who worry me, and I wish there was a way to handle that, but there isn't on this type of a website. The best we can do in that regard is to go back in and edit our own replies if necessary to contradict any bad advice we see. Or if the answer is really offensive or harmful, hit the abuse button and not just the "thumbs down" button.

Ha Ha... I just got best answer for a similar question... I am a biotch.. and I know it! I hate stupid *** people! Ok so.. if its someone old.... I help and help. If its someone I don't know.. I help once and if they don't get it.. then I start to get ticked.. I explain.. then if they still don't get it.. I say f it. If its family but not my mom I help and don't try to help again.. if they don't get it.. then they pretty much know I'm not gonna help or try any harder to help or explain anything again. Now heres the good part. If its my mom or my b/f then they might as well not even ask. They both drive me nuts. There is saying things once and no repeating. I hate having to repeate myself, to the point that I could actually hit the person. I hate "huh" or "what" "what" "what" finally I just leave the house. So I think you have to be nice to old people... everyone else just has to listen to you.... once!

Well, don't forget that there are 10 year olds on here (or, at least, early teens). Also, a number of questions are written with the deliberate intention of being provoking, ideologically extreme, etc. Some are written to be "funny," and many people think stupid is funny (think of "Jack***" and the like). Lastly, be careful to distinguish stupid from non-native English questions, since Yahoo Answers is open to worldwide members, from whom English may be a second (or third) language.

arghhh I agree, I'm sorry but when I see a 26 yr old girl asking " how do I know if he likes me"? or something like that, I can't help but answer sarcastically. I saw a question this morning asking if there was any big news in hollywood today. I mean c'mon. Some people do it just to fill up thier mailbox with emails.

I usually shake my head in disbelief. I am always shocked to see how dumb ppl can be. I know what ya mean, by wanting to go off on them. Its really annoying sometimes, when you see ppl like that. Sayin something to them wont help either, itll just make it worse. I choose to ignore it, and move on. Im just glad Im not one of them.*

I work at Wal-Mart and I have my vest that clearly states that I work there. They always ask "Do you work here?" or "Where are the restrooms?" and they are right in front of them. Or "Who do I make the check out to?" Sometimes I feel like slapping them! Sometimes I get angry but other times I just feel sorry for them.

I feel for you, but what can we do? it's either we move on or bother to answer their questions. I mostly do patience but if it irritates me, I move on. We aren't here to be bothered or to be rude, that's how it is. Each individuals have their own way of thinking. If it's low for you, then I suggest, moving on.

Stupid answers are more bearable than stupid questions. You can always read other smart answers.
