everyone so far is wrong, in my experiece it is not to many volts that will "burn" your motor it is too few...however, if you run more amps to your motor ,and with a higher number of volts your amps will go up too, she will cook, also from 12 to 18 is not such a big gain, i say run it just keep the old fire extinguisher handy!

You will at the very least shorten the life of the motor by running it over voltage. Put an appropriate resistor in series with the motor to drop the voltage to 12 volts and you will be okay. Remember the resistor will get hot though.
Ohms law. E (electromotive force, in volts) = I (impedance, in amps) x R (resistance, in ohms). Do the math. Or cheat. put a variable resistor in the circuit and measure the voltage at the motor. When it reaches 12 volts, take the power off and measure the resistance with an ohm meter, get one that size heavy enough to handle the current draw.

if the 18 volt battery has to many amps in it, it could cause the motor to over heat ,and damage it that's too much voltage and amps for a 12 volt fan to run on,but really it may burn it up,good luck with it.

you will would desire to apply 2 6V batteries in sequence (connect the - of one battery to the + of the different battery then the + of the 1st battery and the - of the 2nd battery are related to the fan) to make the fan run genuine. do no longer connect the fan to something decrease than 12V or it is going to degrade overall performance, do no longer connect it to something greater suitable than 12V or it is going to fry the fan. verify the cord you utilize to connect the two batteries has sufficient resistance (do no longer use an rather skinny cord) or it is going to burn out.

Yes, it will likely burnout the fan rather quickly.
