We have recently remodeled our bathroom, from retiling the floors to building our own custom shower. But I have a problem. It is the bathroom that our three young sons use. They dont have the best aim and there is a constant puddle of urine behind the toilet. I wipe it up as soon as I see it, but the grout is getting white spots in it. When I clean the floor, the water turns it back to its normal color, but as soon as it dries, the white spots reappear. Is the grout permanently stained, or is there something I can do? The tile and grout were sealed before the boys were allowed to use the toilet. Thanks for any help.

Don't use bleach on grout, it will erode it over time and you'll have a repair job instead of a stain. Urine stains because of the acid in it. You can get cleaner for urine stains at pet stores and from janitor supply companies

Grout can be sucessfully fully restored by using the following formula made to the consistency of tooth paste, then applied with a plastic gloove and spread along the grout lines with your finger in the plastic glove.

1. about 1 cup of Portland Cement.

2. about 5 twp of Cement Hardner

3. about 3 tsp of regular latex acrylic white paint

4. Add water till it meets tooth paste consistency.

Mix well, wet down the grout with water first, not a flooding just good and wet grout. Keep room cool, then apply the mix above and mist about every half hour with mist bottle, keeping it wet

You can vary the color of the grout with the latex as you so desire, white will produce a light gray grout.

The above restoration prevents further deteroriation by the acids in urine, seals the grout aginst dust and dirt, and eliminates the nonsense sealing (which does not work) with expensive Silicone sealers.

Are you sure it's the boys and not the dog in your avatar? :)

Tell the boys to sit down until they improve their aim... I have 3 bad shooters myself...

Sure you can scrub it with a toothbrush and bleach but you may need to re-seal that section again... should be fine.
