White glues, such as Elmer's, bond by solvent evaporation. The solvent in Elmer's all-purpose school glue is water. When the water evaporates, the polyvinylacetate latex that has spread into a material's crevices forms a flexible bond. Super glue, on the other hand, undergoes a process called anionic polymerization. Cyanoacrylate molecules start linking up when they come into contact with water, and they whip around in chains to form a durable plastic mesh. The glue thickens and hardens until the thrashing molecular strands can no longer move.

It depends on the type of glue, but white glue in a bottle its not considered dry and is still wet, although if you leave the bottle of glue open it will harden and then dry, thats why whenever sometimes when you open the cap off of a bottle of elmers the sides are dry and covered in clue

because the bottle is sealed and the exposure to air is what creates a chemical reaction where glue "sticks". if you leave a bottle of glue open for a couple of days it sticks to the bottle on the inside.. lol I never actually thought of that before! good question.

Because it is still wet. Glue only works when it is dry. If you leave the cap off the bottle ... then it WILL stick to the bottle.

Not enough air to allow the evaporation/oxidation (depending on the glue) to dry sufficiently enough to "stick." (there is some sticking, but no different than say, maple syrup or oil or even water, but I don't think this is what you are talking about)

Glue doesn't dry until it is exposed to air...that is why they are in the air tight bottle....silly.
