I gradauted last may with a bachelors of science in business administration with an option in management information systems, and a minor in information technology. My GPA is 3.0/4.0. I've been employed as a VoIP/Computer Technician since graduation. I am really considered becoming an officer in the armed forces, preferably the Air Force, but after reading how its getting harder to get into a OTS or OCS, I'm wondering if I would even get in. I haven't taken the military entrance exam yet, wil try in the next month or two, the only thing i have to go on is that i scored a 24 on the ACT in high school. What would be the best approach for improving my chances? More schooling? More work experience? Going enlisted first? Sorry for the bombardment of questions.

Enlisting does not improve your chances for entering OCS over a civilian, because the application pools are separate.

You will be interviewed by a board of officers (one major or higher, two captains or higher) who will determine your interest, your ability, and your qualifications as a potential officer in the US armed forces.

OCS is hard to get into, only about 60% of applicants are accepted. However, if you express a strong interest and ability, do well on the test, and pass the physical, you should be alright.

The easiest way to become an officer is to do it via R.O.T.C. (Reserve Officer Training Corps). That would be harder for you since you already have a degree - have you considered getting a second Bachelor's and going the ROTC route? A recruiter might be able to help you explore your options, but be careful - they have quotas to meet each month and may put an "overly optimistic" spin on things just to get you in, and then all their promises may not pan out. Make sure you get whatever they offer you in writing before making any commitments....
