The universe is very large and our lifespans in the scheme of time are very short so the probability of this happening is very low. I'd have to say no.

I can't say for sure but the possibilities are increasing. I was very doubtful of humankind making any form of contact however with the discovery of giant gaseous planets orbiting other stars besides our own sun has led to the hunt for smaller planets much like earth.
even before the discovery of these planets a Dr. Frank Drake of S.E.T.I. (search for extra terrestrial intelligence) in 1961 came up with a formula for estimating extra terrestrial intelligence life in our galaxy, it's called the Drake Equation back then he estimated about 50 planets but now with the discovery of other solar systems with planets this estimation has risen to 1000 planets.

radio and later television signals has been leaking out into space for over a 100 years and consider these signals are travelling at the speed of light that means that our earilest signals are now 100 lightyears away in fact there are 10's of 1000's stars within our earilest signals range, in fact someone 50 light years away could be listening to 'Here's Lucy' right now. of course the signals would be weak and E.T. would need a powerful reciever pointing our way but thats what groups like S.E.T.I. are doing so why not other intelligent beings.

i would say our first contact won't be a physical contact but a radio or more likely a microwave signal and even at that it would not be aim at us but perhaps an alien tv station transmitting an alien version of the 'Simpsons'.

S.E.T.I. using there radioscope are searching for articficial radio or microwave wavebands which would be absolute proof of E.T.

I'm sure the same way we humans need to know whats out there, some other intelligence similar or not to our own would feel likewise and would be searching aswell.

I personally don't think it would radical change our views on life if we do make contact but only re enforce it and would make us wonder what else is out there? in so far will it happen in our lifetime? quiet possible why not? but will we be able to recognised their signal when it does happen? that is the question.

Good question. I don't think we will contact anyone else in our lifetime, but I don't think it will be too much longer - say another couple hundred years or so. Computer technology and telescopic power improves every day. We are consistently launching new spacecraft to scan the heavens. At some point, it is inevitable that we will reach someone else. If it happens while I am alive, all the more grateful I will be.

We have already but for it to become really obvious so as it's impossible to deny all the signs seem to be pointing to Mexico 2012 that's where it starts. Check out this video of a conference in Mexico this has the most compelling footage ever taken. When 200 or more objects appear in the sky over Mexico city in the middle of the day with an audience of tens of thousands watching and recording I'd say that you may have some trouble passing it off as weather phenomena especially when that phenomena is static and the only movements are changes within the formation that form symbols a lot of which we see in crop circles. Check it out. http://video.google.co.uk/url?vidurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.co.uk%2Fvideoplay%3Fdocid%3D-5305085298884471236%26q%3Dufo%2Bmex&docid=-5305085298884471236&ev=v&esrc=sr1&usg=AL29H21HDqfK9FPhgwiHlzg0z4o82YvZzA

This is very difficult to say as our technology means that it would take several lifetimes to even send or receive signals unless these lifeforms are more highly evolved than us this would mean no.

Yes wouldn't it be great if the aliens made contact with the FRENCH instead of the americans... just imagine the state the yanks would get into....

I think that it is up to them. Our lives are brief and our technology is primitive...We are just now able to explore our solar system and consider it would take about 10,000 years for a signal from Earth to reach any significant distance, it's unlikely.
But maybe they are already trying to contact us and just waiting for us to listen...Whenever it happens, it will change humanity.

My belief is that we will pick up an unmistakeable signal within the next twenty years. Not necessarily a deliberate one, but it will confirm that, we are not alone.
