My car failed to start last Friday,I was about 25 miles from home , in sub zero weather and had my young child with me; so I got a jump start. Not knowing where else to go near by, I went to Sears, because it was two blocks away. I assumed it must be a weak battery. I started to look at their batteries, when a sale clerk ask if he could help, I accepted, told him what happened, he suggested that I do a Diagnostic test to make sure nothing was wrong with my car. The test come back, everything is fine. 2 days later my Sears battery is Dead. I buy a new battery from Walmart, go back to Sears with their battery for a refund, They refused to give me a refund or my old battery back("against policy") which I found was a 72 month battery with 28 months on it. I immediatly took my car to my regular mechanic of 15 years. He found my Alternater was draining my battery and I needed a new starter and regulater. Why didn't Sears Diagnostic find anything?, easy sale? I didn't need a battery.

Chances are the guys didn't even DO a diagnostic....they just GUESSED. Did you watch them do it? If not....then they probably didn't. If you DID....then they weren't qualified to read the results or perform the test. Also, the likelihood of them having your old battery is probably nil...I believe they send them out to get refurbished.

Call up the customer service desk and tell them what happened. If they don't satisfy your needs, tell them you want to speak to the manager...or as I like to put it "the one who's in charge of firing YOU". Keep going up the ladder until you get results. I think they owe you for the battery they sold PLUS pay for the one they took.

I don't have problems with Sears....my mom works there...and she scares everybody...LOL

Yes. Sears is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They just do not care period. I am so surprised they haven't went bankrupt yet. Matter of fact, if they keep this up they will be the next ones down. I have been fighting with them for 2 years for a washer they sold me that still doesn't work. I have drained so much energy and time with them. There is no one you can contact to help you either. Their one and only word around there is NO. Sorry you are dealing with them. Make sure you document EVERYTHING you have with them.

By the way, I have contaced the BBB and NEVER heard an answer from Sears nor the BBB.

Diagnostics usually are only related to devices used for pollution control. As far as sears go, They just don't care.

I haven't had a problem with that certain department, but I have a problem with their credit department. I paid my account off $4200, then a day later they took another 587.76, and when I called they said they never did, and I have it on my bank statment, and no body will let me talk to a supervisor, so I contacted the FTC. -F- sears. I hate them.

standard procedure for sears is to check alternator first.
if they don't refund u tell the manager u will
1 take down everybody's names and dates
2 tell them u will take them to small claims court
3 tell them u will file a complaint to the state's district attorney's office
4 tell them u will file a complaint with sear's district manager
5 tell them u will file a complaint with the BBB
6 tell them u will write a letter regarding this to the local news
trust me if u tell them all this verbally and on paper u will be our $ back :-)

That's why Sears' sales have dropped drastically. Dishonesty.
