1999 explorer, limited. engine lite wont go off. i have driven it 5000 miles and runs great.????

One problem I had with a 1998, that drove me bonkers, was a loose gas cap of all things. It seems that the engine warning light will come on if the cap is not fitted properly onto the fuel neck.

Check with a good mechanic or a dealer. They can easily get the failure codes with diagnostic equipment. Some mechanics do it free (to get the business) while others, and dealers, may charge up to 50 bucks.

There are a number of sensors that could turn on the light; emissions, low oil, etc. Sometimes they fail & just need replacement. Sometimes the gas cap was not replaced tightly. Sometimes they get wet.
The risk you take is if something really does goes wrong, you will not be aware.

no matter what, you need to find out why that lights on.. could be something as dumb as the spark plug wires need adjusting, or an engine misfire {my '97 saturn does that all the time} your local advanced auto or auto zone should be able to check ti...

dont take the light bulb out, - then you wont have the light at all... and thats just dumb... theres a reason manufacturers put that light in... it means to CHECK THE ENGINE! ;) hence the name. its better to find out problems early on, before they turn into larger problems....

i own a repair shop,and why don't you do this take it by any auto zone store and have them do a computer scan on it and they can tell you whats making it stay on,its probably something small,but its free to have them do this,and then you,ll know,it may have something going out on it,you don't have nothing to loose here on this one the scan is free,and they can also turn the light off ,by re-setting it,good luck with it i hope this help,s.
