It's all about money. The corporations will hype any holiday they can to try to make more money. A few years back they tried this with a new invented holiday called "Sweetest Day" in September.

Personally, I don't care about Valentine's day.
Its supposed to be a day for love, but actually, its just a day that hallmark probably set up so we buy more cards.

i agree with the first answer. it's important in the usa because the big commercial machine puts pressure on consumers to buy lavish gifts in order to profess our love. the consumers in turn have become automatized into thinking the more money they spend, the more they love their significant other. it just keeps getting worse and worse.

i think its for hopeless romantics that believe in finding true love on top of the Empire State building sound familiar. hell it gives my wife an excuse to go shopping for jewlery.
